Description: TECHNICS MICRO COMPACT STEREO SYSTEM with TURNTABLE A beautiful Technics compact system from 1979-1981. Technics produced many inexpensive products prior to 1983 that offered acceptable performance with designs that were relatively undistinguished and run-of the mill. But they also produced quite a few products that offered high build quality, unique designs and exceptional performance for a very reasonable price. This system is one of those great values—it features three carefully matched examples of the best “Silver Era“ styling and performance. The SU-C04 integrated amp boasts a very solid 30 watts per channel and the Technics “New Class A” circuitry that gave their MicroSeries a great reputation for a clean, fast sonic quality. With enough undistorted power to drive most any small speakers and many larger ones, it featured a much better than average phono preamp stage that has been acclaimed by many owners. While very compact in size, with a clean layout, it still boasts a pair of tape monitor inputs with dubbing in addition to phono, tuner and aux. The Technics SL-Q3 turntable is one of the better quality Technics direct drive models. It boasts a quartz phase-locked direct drive motor, a solid aluminum diecast turntable base with special non-resonant compounds for deadening against vibration, a superior low mass tone arm with gimbal suspension and fully automatic operation. This particular model has been serviced and it is fitted with an excellent Empire cartridge. It tracks well at a low stylus pressure. The only aspect of this turntable that was a bit on the cheap side was the dust cover. The one with this turntable is usable as a cover but it lacks working hinges and it is cracked ( see pictures). The SB-F2 speakers are from the remarkably well made and high performing Linear Phase series and they will make you forget everything you ever heard or read about low quality of Japanese mass-market speakers. Solidly built out of cast aluminum, these speakers look good and sound great. Lightweight paper cone drivers in a sealed enclosure, with Technics’ widely praised Linear Phase design and a complex crossover. These add up to a speaker that is detailed, fast and articulate. The sound quality is very much on a par with better conventional speakers from the 1980’s such as Acoustic Research AR-18’s -- quite remarkable given the tiny sized enclosures. Vocals are handled exceptionally well for such a small speaker. 5” woofer and horn tweeter in a 10” x 5”x 6” enclosure. The build quality is second to none - overbuilt in every way - and it even includes a re-settable speaker protection switch. These make a stunning combination with the Technics SU-C0 series amplifiers. On-line reviews for all three of these components should convince most readers that they offer truly impressive performance at a very reasonable price point. I have used similar Technics Micro-Systems and SL-Q series turntables for many years and can’t say enough good things about them. In summary, these components not only look cool, reflecting the best of the Silver Era aesthetics, but they also offer solid build quality and exceptional performance. A great way to return to Vinyl. The package is value priced at $ 524.00 Note: We have a good supply of Technics components from this era. Micro Series Amps and Speakers. Direct Drive Turntables.
