Description: Early re-issue of an 1870s photograph depicting Second Street from Market Street after 1869. This was re-issued by T E Hecht. It is unknown who the original photographer was. Treu Ergeben Hecht (1875-1931) was born in Tahiti to Joseph A. and Christine Hecht. They emigrated from Tahiti in 1878 to San Francisco. T E began his career in photography around 1893. In 1898 he is listed as working as a retoucher for Theodore C. Marceau (1859-1922) at 826 Market St. and by 1899 was listed as a photographer living at 420 35Th. Avenue. He also became negative producer of old photographs from the 1850s onward. Their home was destroyed by the 1906 San Francisco Earthquake. Hecht Probably took photos of the aftermath of the earthquake and fire. In 1909 he was listed living with his younger sister Herman Hecht a stenographer at 430 35Th. Ave. About 7” x 9”. Old owner’s pen name and address on the back. Mild wear. See scans.
