Description: Sylvie And Bruno 1889 + Sylvie And Bruno Concluded 1893 Both First Edition, Illustrated Antique Hardbacks SYLVIE AND BRUNO The flame red boards are strong and straight with a few marks. Notable ones are a faded spot and a pen line to the front. There is minor turning of the corners with a line crush to top left back. The spine is sun-faded and dried with softening and cracking to either end. There is a lean of the spine with a little movement. The gilded lettering and decoration is legible but faded. Similar with the page gilding. The binding is intact Inside, the pages are clean and clearly printed with age appropriate marks ~ some foxed spots, very mild tan in places. The illustrations are simply delightful line drawings . It's a shame to have to list the flaws of a book that has survived for so long! SYLVIE AND BRUNO CONCLUDED The gilded lettering and decoration matches its predecessor with a different character in the centre. The flame red boards are strong and straight with a few surface marks ~ small scratches. There is minor turning of the corners. The spine has mild sun fading with softening to either end ~ less so than its companion. There is a small lean with a little movement. The gilding to the outer edges of the pages is quite bright. No more than slightly faded. The binding is intact. Inside, the pages are clean and clearly printed with, again, age related foxing and tanning to the first few. Further in, the book belies its age! Again , it is a shame to have to call out the flaws of a real antique. Both books are 130+ years old ~ there is acceptable age related wear. Maybe some repair by previous holders.
