Legend: The illustration of this house is based on a model interior that Sweden exhibited at International Exhibition in Paris in 1878. It represents a typical Swedish house of wooden construction. Houses in Sweden and Norway feature a very utilitarian layout serving the needs of each particular family. The houses are isolated, scattered throughout the countryside. The construction is made of fir, individual members connected with wood pins, The roof substructure is carried on wood trusses. The house, or rather the chalet represented here consists of two rooms only. A vestibule and the main room where the family lives, it serves as a kitchen. living room and bedroom. The only opening admitting the light is a skylight at the top of the roof, in the middle. Before the widespread usage of clock there was a solar dial on the cupboard, during the sunny days, the skylight admitted sun rays and provided the occupants with means to measure time. The utensils in the top hlaf of the print are all made of wood. They are based on actual renderings made by Mr. Hazelies who served as attaché at French lgation in Sweden. Fig. 1.
