Description: This is a vintage antique sample of patented antique barbed wire. This sample features a John Stubbe patent, dated October 23, 1883. This wire is called "Stubbe's Small Notched Corners Metal Plate Wire" by collectors. (ref Hagemeier 746). This wire features two twisted together round line wires. Barbs are made of sheet metal with each corner notched and bent in opposing directions. Plates are placed between the lines prior to twisting with wires in the notches. Wire sample shows light pitting. There are three barbing plates, which are well spaced, and cut is fairly well centered. There is some bending of barbs but no broken or missing barbing points.
