Description: Steve Schneer Estate Big O Skate Park Great American Skateboard G.S.A. 1st Place Bowl Riding Competition Award 1978 This listing is for a 1st place award given to Steve and comes from the estate of 1980’s skate legend Steve Schneer who passed away in 2014. His brother Chris Schneer is a close friend of mine, and I am helping him offer some of Steve’s estate for sale. More of Steve's Estate skateboarding items can be found in my eBay store category titled "Skateboarding" or by clicking on this eBay link: https://www.ebay.com/str/cornucopiaoftreasures/Skateboarding/_i.html?store_cat=43881500011 Back story: Chris Schneer told me the Big O skatepark that opened on the corner of Chapman & 55 freeway was a monster park compared to other parks of the day. The pinnacle pool at the park was the “Capsule” pool and at the time was considered extremely difficult to skate. An old photo of the pool under construction is in the photo section above. A contest was held on the August 13, 1978. A huge grandstand was built for the event. The place was packed for the contest. At the time, Steve Schneer, was an amateur skater. Chris told me Steve blew away the crowd, and every other skater there, by not only skating in that pool like it was nothing, but was able to get so much vertical air that he traversed the pool entry chute from one side to the other. Going up one vertical wall at an angle and flying across the chute to come down the opposite vertical wall. The crowd went nuts! He got 1st place at this event. Surpassing everybody who skated that day. This event started his professional career. Sponsors at the event recognized his massive talent and lined up to sponsor Steve to ride for them professionally. I will do my best to describe what is being offered for sale. Chris Schneer has helped me with the listing descriptions but a couple of items he is not familiar with. If you have questions, please message me and I will do my best to answer by contacting Chris for more clarification. I was primarily a surfer and did not skate much, so I am not 100% familiar with all skate products.
