Description: Rare Miniature Pearlware Childs Toy Cup & Saucer Beehive William Adams Staffordshire, England 1820 This is a glorious miniature transferware cup and saucer. Originally part of a child's complete tea set, the London shaped cup stands a tiny 1-1/2 inches tall with an applied handle, and the saucer measures 4 inches across the top rim. The color is a brilliant cobalt blue with a pearlware glaze. The set is impeccably potted and light bodied. The central image depicts a beehive buzzing with activity, situated in the center of a lavish flower garden, with an urn of flowers in the background and alternating floral bouquets around the inner rim, leaving very little white space. The beehive and urn motif is printed twice on the outside of the cup and repeats once on the inside bottom of the cup and saucer. The bold border decoration is placed delicately along the inside rim of the cup. The set is unmarked on the underside except for a printed tally mark . The pattern was made by several potters and is most commonly attributed to William Adams, a pottery maker in the Staffordshire district 1810-1825. The set is in great condition with no chips, cracks or repairs. This is a rare set, with everything going for it, perfect for all the beehive fanciers and collectors of the finest doll dishes.
