The supreme enemy of Satan, St. Michael is generally recognized by the Church as “First among the Angels.” His feast day, once widely known as Michaelmas, is September 29th. St. George, a third century saint born in Lydda, Palestine, was a soldier in the army of the Roman Emperor Diocletian who was martyred by the pagan emperor for his Christian faith. He is immortalized in the tale of Saint George and the Dragon in which he slays the dragon menacing the people of Silene (later Lasia), Libya, for which in thanks they converted to Christianity. Regarded as one of the most prominent military saints, his many patronages include: England, Portugal, Israel, Lebanon, Palestine, Ukraine, and Russia, among others, as well as soldiers.
