"Jonesy" JonesProfile: American musician, best known as a square dance caller.Born June 2, 1907 Los Angeles, California.Died June 30, 2003 (aged 96) Glendale, California.Besides recording, he was a square dance caller in a dozen films.Jones was born in 1907 in Los Angeles, California.[3] His mother, who died when Jones was seven years old, was a pianist and guitarist.[4] Jones began calling dances in 1940, touring the United States and calling at various square dancing events. He also called dances regularly at his home state of California.[5] He was known for dressing up in a Western-style at his events he worked, once stating that "short sleeves have been eliminated" while describing what he saw as a "rigid" dress code for square dance callers in a 1952 article.[5] Jones also released records of his calls under the C. P. MacGregor Records label, including "My Little Girl", "Down Yonder" and "Oh Johnny".[5] He had previously recorded his calls, first in 1946 on the Black and White then on Imperial, Capitol, MGM and Mastertone labels.[6] Jones also appeared in many films television series in the 1970s and 1980s, most often uncredited, as a square dance caller.[6]Jones was married to Florence. He is a member of the Square Dance Hall of Fame.[6] He died in 2003. He had resided in Glendale, California for majority of his life.C.P. MacGregor CompanyC.P. MacGregor Company imageProfile: The C.P. MacGregor Company was a Los Angeles, California sound recording firm that was started in the 1920s by C.P. "Chip" MacGregor, a former manager at the San Francisco office of Brunswick Records (then owned by Warner Bros.). The company became very successful and lasted until his death in 1977, producing, recording, and transcribing numerous radio commercials for business and politics, nationally syndicated radio shows, public announcements, educational and instructional recordings, training recordings, interviews and speeches, and a wide variety of music for numerous record companies between the 1930s and 1970s. An associated recording studio, a radio performance studio with live audience space, record label, and record pressing facility were integral parts of the operation.Besides the C.P. MacGregor Studios at 729 S. Western Ave in Hollywood, there was as a studio on Mission Street in San Francisco from 1932 to 1937, and a pressing plant in Oakland, California which produced "Royal Blue" 78 RPM discs for Columbia Records in the 1930s. MacGregor became so prolific at producing electrical transcriptions that he was called "the DeMille of the discs"; original syndicated "Hollywood-Style dramas" were produced on-site which were sold to radio stations across the country for $17.50 per episode. MacGregor also provided recording services for the Armed Forces Radio Service (AFRS). Little is known about this West Coast San Francisco and later Hollywood record label. The Brunswick phonograph headquarters for the entire West Coast was established at 980-982 Mission Street, with a phonograph department on the mezzanine floor. By 1924 C.P. MacGregor was the manager of the Brunswick division for the San Francisco territory. This was probably the same MacGregor who later made custom records issued by the MacGregor and Ingram Recording Laboratories, a firm listed in San Francisco’s 1930 and 1931 phone books. C. P. “Chip” MacGregor's San Francisco studio was a leader in the production and distribution of low-cost syndicated transcription series during the early 1930s, following the development of program syndication by Freeman Gosden and Charles Correll of Amos ’n’ Andy.) Famous are the 1931 Anson Weeks transcription discs recorded in San Francisco for coast-to-coast broadcasts, Nick Lucas recordings, and later Musical Library recordings for Film and Radio purposes. From 1932 to 1937 the company was MacGregor and Sollie. C. P. MacGregor, producer/transcriber/recording Studio owner, died in Hollywood, CA, USA Dec. 5, 1968. Age: 71. In 1924, MacGregor was Brunswick Records manager for the San Francisco territory. He later had his own studios; "CP MacGregor Studios" , at 729 S. Western Avenue, Hollywood, CA, where many stars were recorded, including Nick Lucas. If for any reason your transaction was NOT SATISFACTORY, pls contact me and I will work something out with you. YOU WILL NEVER HAVE A REASON TO GIVE ME A NEGATIVE RATING or a LOW STAR RATING. Quick note on grading: The Grade (Excellent to Poor, I don't give Mint) refers to the WEAR of the record. Any other defects are stated separately When I listen to a record, I may also give it an aural grade (again E to P), and make a SUBJECTIVE judgment of the pressing quality for hiss and surface noise."EXCEPTIONALLY QUIET" is close to noiseless, like a vinyl pressing."VERY QUIET" is an above average quiet record for a given pressing."Quiet" is a record that is a great example with some noise. These judgments are SUBJECTIVE and will depend one the styli, phonograph etc. you use on your own equipment. Multiple item shipping: I am happy to combine items for shipment in one parcel.
