Description: Sprague Musical Windup Jug Brown w/Gold 1930's Spanish Galleon Ship How Dry I Am Exquisite Decorative SPRAGUE MUSICAL Windup JUG, Hand Painted 22 Carat GOLD SPANISH GALLEON Ship w/Flying Birds, Brown w/Runs from Sprague Clock Company New York, New York, USA, circa 1930's DESCRIPTION: The beautiful hand painted musical jug was produced in a beautiful brown with darker brown flecks and runs. This is decorated with a large, hand painted 22 carat gold Spanish galleon with waves and birds. The handle, top rim and foot is also trimmed in gold. This makes a beautiful display jug or can be used every day. CONDITION: While this jug is classified as used, the condition is superb. There are no chips, nicks, cracks, other rubbings, scratches or hairlines. There is one small spot on the bottom side at the foot where the where the glaze was rubbed in the decorating. See photo #10. There is no wear to the gold. DIMENSIONS: The jug has a maximum diameter of 6", a bottom diameter of 4 3/4" with a height of 7 7/8". The top opening diameter is 1". The capacity is 44 ounces or 5 1/2 cups. HISTORY/MARKS: This musical box was manufactured by William Sprague Clock Company of New York, New York. The label on the bottom is worn, but enough is legible to identify this. It has the instructions "Do Not Overwind". The music jug is placed in the bottom of the pottery jug and has the ring to wind and a push pin mechanism to stop the song from plying when placed on a table. We think the song it plays is "How Dry I Am". The mechanism does work! Please view all pictures carefully as they are part of the description.
