Description: This is an old and rare Solomon Islands (Buka Island) Dance paddle from c. 1890s - 1920s. It's hard to find ones with good looking Kokorra figures -- most extant are of very poor quality, their Kokorra are badly faded. This specimen is in very good shape considering its fragile nature -- a soft/light palm wood species. The usual old age related scratches and dents here and there. That's all. This beautiful ceremonial dance paddle looks much better in person!!! My poor photos don't do it any justice. Last photo -- sold via a French auction house, some years ago -- estimated 3.500 - 5,000 euros.
