" PORTRAIT OF LADY MUSTER " About the portrait: Sir Joshua Reynolds (1723-1792), Portrait of Sophia Catherine Musters (1758–1819) This full-length portrait by Reynolds is a fairly conventionally depiction of a young bride, dressed in contemporary fashions and standing in a landscape, with a small dog at her feet. Mrs. Musters was a conventionally well-bred woman of the class known as the landed gentry. Hers is hardly a household name and rarely, is she mentioned among the scandalous wives who bore the label Fashionable Impure. Yet, for a few years, she cut a notable swathe in that circle of naughty society ladies. According to the catalog of the Tate Britain exhibit, Reynolds painted this portrait, in 1777.
