Ohtani is now the 2024 unanimous NL MVP after his incredible 54 home runs, 59 stolen base season (he also batted .310, scored 134 runs and had 130 runs batted in...wow!!). That's right...this is Ohtani's 3rd unanimous MVP award, having won the AL MVP in unanimous fashion in 2021 and 2023.This Ohtani rookie card has the special All Star game silver foil stamp on the front of the card, found only in a very limited edition of the 2018 Topps sealed factory sets. A limited amount of these sets were made and sold at the 2018 All Star game fanfest in Washington DC to commemorate the All Star game. This card is unlike any of the other pack pulled or factory set pulled Ohtani rookie card as it has the silver foil All Star Game stamp. Factory sealed All Star complete sets is pretty much non-existent any where (none of the big online sellers have this set in stock in their inventory!). In 2019, the print run for the All Star game sets were greatly increased due to the popularity of the 2018 set...never again will there be a low print factory sealed All Star game set like the 2018 sets.Estimates have the 2018 All Star game sets print run somewhere in the 3000 (or less) sets with most of those sets sitting in closets (so very little available to the general public) which is super low compared to the regular base version, making the All Star game stamped Ohtani rookie card similar in print run to the Gold rookies (PSA 10 versions of the Golds run $1800-2000).As of 8/6/24, this All Star Game stamped foil Ohtani rookie has a low GEM MINT population of only 208 PSA 10s graded (that's an increase of only 105 10s since 9/7/22 - almost 2 years time!). The 208 available All Star stamped Ohtani PSA 10 cards are a lower population (# of cards available in the PSA 10 grade) than the #700 Batting SP which has 266 PSA 10s (these have sold for an average of $850-900). As of 8/6/24, 542 of the batting SPs have been submitted, compared to only 311 of the All Star game stamped Ohtani rookie.This points to the fact that a very limited amount of the All Star game stamped Ohtani rookie cards were made, even less than the Batting SP short print version.The 2018 Bowman Chrome #1 Ohtani (which sells for $600-650) has 4190 PSA 10s as of 8/6/24, out of 7004 submitted (this card is not limited in comparison). The All Star game stamped Ohtani #700 has only 208 PSA 10s as of 8/6/24. Seems like a no brainer which one is a harder to find/more valuable card to stash away for the long term.
