Description: This is a custom 12" figure commemorating a real American hero, Sgt. Emanuel Stance. Stance was a Buffalo Soldier with the Ninth Cavalry, joining (October 2, 1866) just a couple of months after the 9th was formed. Stance was able to read and write which made him a valuable recruit. Emanuel Stance was promoted to sergeant in March of 1867. The Ninth and Tenth Cavalry were made up of Negro soldiers shortly after the Civil War. Both units served with distinction in multiple locations in the west. The Buffalo soldiers fought Indians, bandits, rustlers, horse thieves, whiskey peddlers, gun runners, brutal weather, lousy equipment, tired horses, poor food, and boredom to carve out a nitch in history. With all of the hardships these units faced they had the lowest desertion rate in the army. Sgt. Stance was part of a rescue effort to help locate kidnapped brothers Herman Lehmann and his little brother Willie. Stance was leading a patrol that was to locate the Apache raiding party that had taken the brothers. When the Apache band was located Stance and his men charged the Apache firing their Spencer's as they went. The Apache abandoned their stolen horses in order to get away. In the confusion Willie Lehman was able to get to safety with the troopers. On the patrol's return trip to their fort the men engaged hostiles twice recovering more stolen horses. None of the men in Stance's command were injured. for his actions on the mission, Emanuel Stance was cited for "gallantry on scout after Indians". Stance would become the first African-American regular to receive the Congressional Medal of Honor a month later (June 28th 1870) for his actions. PLEASE Note that while this figure does not look exactly like Emanuel Stance there is a bit of resemblance. sold as is. stand included. Figure designed mainly for display purposes for the wild west fan. This would make a nice addition to any collection. Thank you for the look, enjoy shopping! Please note the following-when a figure is a custom figure that means it is not a licensed product,or "official" but something the customizer did by combining figures and accessories from different makers and toy releases to come up with the custom figure or figures. I started customizing figures a few years back because I couldn't find more than a handful of "official" releases and unable to find figures of people I wanted to collect. I checked in to the market of custom figures. Most of the custom figures available back then cost several hundred dollars, so, I started doing my own. Because I needed to support my new hobby, I started selling some custom figures. My prices reflect my acquisition cost, time involved, and some profit. Thanks for the look, have fun shopping!
