Description: Bromo-Seltzer's original formula contained sodium bromide, a tranquilizer that was banned for its toxicity, and acetanilide, which is also poisonous. It was very successful from the 1890s into the 1950s as a headache, hangover, indigestion, and upset stomach remedy. The old advertisements reference 4 sizes. Here they are! The mini is 2 ½” tall, the next size is 3 ¾” tall, next is 4 ¾” tall, with the large size at 6 ½”. The deep blue bottles were a distinctive way of branding but also were said to keep the ingredients from degrading. All have the same embossing “BROMO-SELTZER EMERSON DRUG CO BALTIMORE M D”. The smallest has a 19 on the base, the second has a 3, the third nothing, and the large one a 6 or a 9. All have the standard rolled lip. The large one is an early machine-made style while the others are all hand made. All are in dug condition with haze but no damage. This is an excellent addition to your blue bottle shelf.
