(Folio) original cloth backed boards, title and decorations in gilt, top edge gilt. First Edition. Covers the Chou Dynasty (1122 B.C.) through the Ch'Ing Dynasty (1912 A.D.). A catalog of the collection donated to the Cleveland Museum of Art by the distinguished collector. A note tipped to the front endpaper relates the circumstances of publication. Condition: Lightly worn; good condition - see photos Folio. 36 by 26 cm. 135 pp. 54 photographic plates, 16 of which are in color. (The porcelain and jewelry specimens are mostly done in color.) Among the arts treated in this lavish book are pottery and procelain, jades and crystals, bronzes, and stone sculpture. Chinese specimens dominate, followed by Japanese, then Korean. The collector, Worcester Reed Warner (1846-1929), was a trained mechanical engineer, astronomer, entrepreneur and business executive, and a philanthropist. The company he co-founded, Warner & Swazey, manufactured machine tools, but was best known for making astonomical telescopes. The cover is moderately soiled but still handsome with its centerpiece gilt Chinese symbol.To all buyers - I apologize if shipping time seems anything but prompt - 90% of what we sell goes out within a day and is picked up but eBay requires the use of "Ground Advantage" (more expensive and slower than First Class which is now not available) - I see things going one state away taking 3 or 4 days which is ridiculously slow. Also - please note shipping costs (built into purchase price or separate) is not all that it seems - eBay charges sellers (or maybe just me) usually 13.25% on shipping and sales tax - so in reality the 13.25% fee is more along the lines of 15/16% - i.e. - you buy an item for $100 with shipping included (say it costs seller $8) with 8% sales tax the total is $108 of which the seller pays $14.31 (14.31%) or if you consider the net on the item, $92 - 15.55% - I am happy to haggle when I can but at these fees and the cost of shipping - I do have limitations.
