One of the first color screen handhelds of its time to include a built in backlight and a variety of original games and the ability to play Sega Master System games. The Achilles heel of this system are it's electrolytic capacitors. With a slew of poor quality capacitors on the market at the time, thousands of Game Gears were manufactured with faulty components. When a capacitor dies it typically shuts down the entire device, allowing you to power on for a second or two, if at all, before powering down. They are also very prone to leaking. The fluid inside a capacitor is corrosive and will corrode everything it touches if left unattended long enough. For this sole purpose it is highly recommend you replace the capacitors in your Sega Game Gear.
