Artist: Sir Edward Poynter (1836-1919) Sir Edward John Poynter, 1st Baronet PRA was an English painter, designer, and draughtsman who served as President of the Royal Academy. Known for his landscapes, he later turned to a large number of studies of draped figures. His book, Etching and Etchers (1866) became a standard work on the subject, and established him as one of the leading art critics of his day.
