Description: This image comes from the estate of Basil H Vanden Bergh Jr. (1926-2021) in Thornton, Illinois. After researching and sorting the majority of the collection, I believe Basil trained for the US Army in Camp Hood, Texas, as an Antitank Gun Crewman in early 1945. He then was stationed at the Schofield Barracks in Oahu, Hawaii, where he remained until 1946 or 1947. I found a note from December 6, 1945, that named him "Cpl. Basil Vandenbergh, 231st Ord., H. A. M. Co." I know he took a ride on the USS Artemis, liked fishing and laughing with friends, and seemed to be a very good amateur photographer. He seems to have also served in Korea during the early 1950s and spent time in Honolulu, San Francisco, Minneapolis, Chicago, and Thornton. And, if I might add a random fact, he was a member of the the Pepsodent Softball Team of 1944. Measures about 2.5 x 4.75 inches. Will be shipped safely and securely! All items are protected in archival sleeves and packaged in rigid cardstock.
