Description: MARVEL COMICS "If your need is great, and if your hope is gone... there you will meet the Scarlet Witch!" After a journey of nearly 60 years, the slow, disjointed and often painful development of Wanda Maximoff THE SCARLET WITCH has resulted in a truly unique and deeply complex character, a hero whose tragedies and personal struggles on the page -- all indicative of a history of less-than-ideal creative attention and direction -- have come to define not only them, but have defined and informed the Cinematic counterpart of the Scarlet Witch as well. On screen, six decades of the Scarlet Witch have been truncated into less than one. Where the Scarlet Witch's despair and grief builds slowly and perhaps even unnoticeably through numerous comics stories and series, the essences of these stories, when distilled on-screen, have revealed to a worldwide audience the tragedy and heroism of a Scarlet Witch never seen or understood to this degree ever before. Finally, 60 years later, things make sense. Wanda Maximoff is understood by others, and now she can understand herself. Elizabeth Olsen's portrayal of the Scarlet Witch in the Avengers films and in WandavVision brought new clarity to the character, and the completion of the Witch's tragic story-arc in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness promises something better is on the horizon. Ironically, this MCU eventuality has created a similarly brighter day for comics' Scarlet Witch. In both media, Wanda's come full-circle and moved beyond her darker days; in comics, thanks to writer Steve Orlando, penciler Sara Pichelli and the rest of the brand-new Scarlet Witch series' excellent creative team, Wanda Maximoff feels new and vibrant, confident and full of purpose. That the issue also brings MCU character DARCY LEWIS (as portrayed by actress Kat Dennings) into comics continuity only helps to confirm the positive direction Marvel has planned for Wanda Maximoff. Denning's Darcy has infused delight into every scene and project in which she's been a part, and perhaps no more so than in 2021's WandaVision. If some of Darcy's good vibes follow her character from the screen to the page, then so much the better. Either way, the tone for the series has been set -- and that alone is enough of a reason to celebrate AND to make Scarlet Witch #1 a 'Must Have' for any and every Wanda fan around.
