This is the undated 1939 ten shillings or half pound currency note. This banknote is orange in color over a multi colored background. It depicts the image of a young King George VI to the right of the front. The back is orange in color and has a central framed image of people in various manufacturing poses such as a potter, a blacksmith and a man at a machine. The image is titled Manufacturers. The front shows the denomination in writing as Ten Shillings and in the corner as 1/2 pound. It signed on the front by Sheehan and McFarlan in orange coloring and has the serial number 345337 shown twice in black. It is series E over 61. The banknote has a water mark depicting captain Cook's head. Please carefully review the scans presented as they are part and parcel of our description. Date: 1939. Printer: Unknown. Size: The banknote measures ~5 3/8" by ~3". Pick Number: P 25a. Condition: I would grade this banknote as a nice fine or better with all the details being well preserved. The note has several vertical folds, a horizontal fold and general wrinkling. It has minor graffiti in the form of a short ink line to the left of the front within the oval where the watermark is. It has no pinholes and no tears or splits. The edges are intact with minor nicks at the end of the folds. It has a spot in the center, where the central vertical fold meets the horizontal fold, which shows the light through, but we believe it has not fully opened. The note retains some of its original stiffness and crispiness. The colors are vivid and bright. The corners are intact with minimum rounding but considerable creasing and bumping. This is a scarce note which would make a great addition to your collection of Australian banknotes. Please see photo for additional condition information.
