Description: Scarborough Seeds SEEDS GUARANTEED TO GROW *ALL SEEDS ARE FRESH EACH SEASON AND MAINTAINED IN COLD STORAGE TO INSURE FRESHNESS TO YOU* The most important question to ask when buying seed is: Are the seeds good, will they grow? Nothing is worse than putting in all the work to plant a garden and nothing comes up. All Scarborough Seeds are germination tested and are fresh every season. In addition, they are maintained throughout the season in cold storage, which slows the aging process and assures they will still be fresh when you receive them. They are guaranteed to grow, and we provide planting instructions on every package to help you achieve success with your project. SCARBOROUGH SEEDS Spinach, Giant Noble 100 Seeds Spinach was pitched to a generation of children through the merits and power of Popeye. It did them a lot of good too. Spinach is full of vitamins, iron, calcium and so much more, but it is not only good for you, but it is good tasting too fresh or cooked, it can even be frozen. It is one of the easiest vegetables to grow as well. Spinach is a cold weather crop, so it is sown in the fall for an over winter crop in warmer climates or early spring or fall in cooler climates. To lengthen your harvest, plant a new section every two weeks. Space seeds 3 to 6 inches apart as spinach does not like its roots being disturbed and doesn’t take kindly to thinning. They should be planted in full sun but being planted in partial shade or shaded by other plants can extend the harvest. Water evenly throughout the growing season. LATIN NAME: Spinacia oleracea DAYS TO MATURITY: 46 days LIFE CYCLE: Annual HYBRID STATUS: Open Pollinated CULTURE: Spinach grows in a wide range of soils if moist and fertile but is sensitive to acidity; pH should be at least 6.0, preferably 6.5-7.5. SOWING DATES: Spinach germinates best in cool soil. Begin sowing in early spring as soon as the ground can be worked. Summer sowing in soil over 85°F risks low or erratic germination. If sowing must be done during warmer weather, irrigating can help cool the soil and improve germination. Sow in mid to late summer for a fall harvest. Spinach can also be planted from late summer until freeze-up in protected structures for fall, winter, and spring harvest. Using floating row covers offers additional winter protection. PLANTING AND HARVEST: For baby leaf: Sow in a 2-4" wide band, 3/4" apart, about 40 seeds/ft. Clip small leaves in 3-5 weeks, depending on time of year and speed of growth. Triple-rinse leaves, sort out cut and broken leaves, and package. For a continuous supply, sow every 7 days. For bunching and full size: sow 10 seeds/ft., 1/2" deep, rows 12-18" apart. Harvest spinach full size but before bolting, cutting just below root attachment for "rooted spinach", or cut higher for "clipped spinach".
