Description: Offered by Antique American Indian Art, llc---AAIA--- San Idelfonso Desideria Black Jar, Desideria Montoya (1889-1982) 5" x 7" Ca. 1930 Has 1/4" vertical scratch as pictured just below rim and very minor wear typical of age; otherwise in excellent condition. Desideria Montoya was a potter from San Ildefonso Pueblo. She was a younger sister of the significantly more famous Maria Martinez. She may have been overshadowed by her sister but Desideria was recognized as a significant and outstanding potter at the time of the 1909 demonstration of pottery making at the Museum of New Mexico. She was invited to be there with her sisters Maria and Anna plus Ramona Gonzales and Tonita Roybal.
