Description: This is a rare 2-sided 12-inch acetate transcription disc record that plays at 78 RPM. Dated May 8, 1948. This acetate features what sounds like a radio recording of a piano piece entitled "Petite Suite". Possibly broadcast in Los Angeles at the time? This suite has 3 movements: 1. DESPAIR 2. HOPE 3. TRIUMPH Side one features SAMUEL MAGAZINE, the composer of the suite, in a long spoken intro, explaining the piece of music in detail, using lots of music terminology - quite interesting! After a long explanation describing the piece, the first movement of the piece takes up the rest of side one of the disc. Side two features the other two musical movements. Samuel Magazine does not perform his piece on the piano - the pianist performing the piece is SAM MINEO, a prominent 1940s and 1950's-era pianist, who was once a member of "The Hollywood Radio City Orchestra", and also Buffalo NY's "Shea's Buffalo City Orchestra and Stage Band" - he even once co-wrote a song for Frank Sinatra, "Just Close Your Eyes". This acetate once belonged to SAM MINEO. From the limited amount of info I can gather about Samuel Valentine, it appears that he was either a classical or avant-garde piano composer - I am not sure which. It's hard to know for sure when an item is 76 years old and there is little bio info about the artist available. I am also not sure if this piano piece was ever published or performed anywhere else - I Google around and put in the title of the piece and movement titles, and nothing turned up. Who knows?? Maybe it remains an unreleased piece and this is the only recorded document? Very possible. Disc is housed in a plain manila sleeve, as seen in photos. The top right corner of the front of the manila sleeve is signed by the composer Samuel Magazine, to Sam Mineo! You can read Samuel Magazine's personalized signature to Mineo in photo 3. I suppose Magazine gave this acetate to Mineo as a thank you for performing the piano piece. Disc has a bit of light age wear and a few age bubble spots but plays beautifully - with very little crackle! No cracks. The disc labels look good but one of them has a piece of top edge removed or torn off. See photos. If you are a fan or collector of SAM MINEO and these kind of acetate records in general, please see my other listings - I am selling LOTS and LOTS of similar acetates from the batch I got this item from (more Sam Mineo titles, and tons more similar acetates!!) *PLEASE SEE MY OTHER AUCTIONS FOR MANY MORE MUSIC COLLECTABLES!!*Thank you!
