Description: Up for sale is a very rare poetry magazine, "Samisdat" volume 42, #4, 168th release. Published in 1985 and printed in Canada. The name Samizdat was a form of dissident activity across the Eastern Bloc in which individuals reproduced censored and underground makeshift publications, often by hand, and passed the documents from reader to reader. The word samizdat itself comes from Russian and means “self-publishing agency”. The best comparison to the writers and poets in Samisdat would be the Beat Poets of the late 1950s and 1960s. Similar to an underground magazine the printing is rough and the illustrations aren't detailed, but get a point across. There also appears to be a number of publications by the same name but not during this time period. The poetry and illustrations can be R-Rated at times. This particular magazine has works by many poets, Robin Michelle Clifton, Gilbert Marshall, Becky Bradway, Janet McCann, Walt Phillips, Jennifer Hecht, Constance Pults, Syd Weedon, Miriam Sagan, Susan Packie, Paul Weinman, Tammy Anderson, Don Roger Martin, Albert Huffstckler, Joyce Crookes, Peter Magliocco, Paul Shuttleworth and Arthur Knight. The magazine is a little tan from age, a few marks that occurred during the printing process, 52 pages long and the staple binding is secure. US buyers $2.25 shipping. International buyers, shipping through the eBay Global Shipping Program. International buyers, no refunds or returns. Payment is due at the time of the purchase.
