Description: Original sample case used by button salesmen who were hawking their wares. The inside of the case is lined with cushioned fabric. This case holds a sample card of buttons -- produced during the 1800s. The card is not marked with the date or country or origin. The 25 buttons feature colorful painted designs -- with an assortment of plaids, plus a few other types -- including two with lovely plant life motifs. Since there are still sewn on the card, it is hard to see all the button backs -- but these are magnetic, so they are almost certainly tin. And I believe they are likely hollow. This is truly a wonderful group, which would likely be almost impossible to find in good condition, if they had been used on clothing. There are 25 vintage glass buttons all together -- 20 measure approximately i-inch, while the other 5 are slightly more than a half-inch in size. The display card has handwritten inventory numbers below each button. Please refer to the ruler pictured in the image for the exact button sizes. Overall condition: Excellent..... The box has some corner wear, but is otherwise in very nice shape. The display card has a horizontal crease down the middle, plus some soiling and edge wear -- but it is intact and overall in pretty nice shape. The buttons themselves are all in great shape, with no dents, paint chips or other serious flaws. See attached photos for more detail on the condition. ***************************************** PLEASE NOTE: I am NOT an expert on vintage buttons. My mom -- Nancy Moran -- was a longtime member of the National Button Society, plus was active in several local button clubs in New York. She downsized her collection before passing away in 2020, so I have been helping her sell some of her treasures. But I am not familiar with all the terminology and intricacies of button collecting. I try to use various notes she left with the buttons to describe them to the best of my ability, but understand that any terms I use in describing these items, are not terms I am familiar or experienced with. So please use the attached images to form your own opinions. I am also not knowledgeable on the hobby criteria in condition grading -- so I use my condition grades in a commonsense manner -- as if grading any collectible -- they are not based on any hobby standards. Please contact me if you have specific questions, and I will answer them as best I can. Powered by SixBit's eCommerce Solution
