Butakov (1820-1882), military leader, naval commander Григорий Иванович Бутаков (1820–1882) — русский военно-морской деятель, флотоводец, генерал-адъютант, адмирал, основоположник тактики парового броненосного флота, исследователь Чёрного моря. Родился в Риге в семье капитана 1-го ранга. Обучался в морском кадетском корпусе в Санкт-Петербурге, выпущен в мичманы в 1838 году с назначением на линейный корабль «Силистрия». В 1838–1850-х гг. плавал в Эгейском, Средиземном, Чёрном морях; занимался исследованием русских и турецких берегов Чёрного моря. Во время Крымской войны в 1853 году, командуя пароходофрегатом «Владимир», взял турецкий пароход «Перваз-Бахри», а во время осады Севастополя нёс самую деятельную службу. В 1855 году Бутаков назначен начальником штаба в Николаеве, в 1856 — заведующим морскою частью в Николаеве и военным губернатором Николаева и Севастополя. В 1860 году переведён на Балтику начальником отряда винтовых кораблей. Это дало ему возможность продолжить исследование свойств винтовых судов и составить свой труд «Пароходные эволюции». С 1860 года почти до конца своей службы Г.И. Бутаков находился на Балтийском флоте, где он сначала командовал эскадрой винтовых кораблей, затем эскадрой винтовых лодок и эскадрой броненосных кораблей. В 1881 году назначен главным командиром Петербургского порта, а по упразднении этой должности — членом государственного совета. Бутаков написал ряд статей в «Морском сборнике», «Свод морских военных сигналов» и «Книги эволюционных сигналов». Главный труд его «Новые основания пароходной тактики» удостоен Академией наук Демидовской премии. Награждён орденами Св. Александра Невского, Белого Орла, Св. Анны 1 степени, Св. Владимира 3 степени, Св. Георгия 4 степени, Св. Станислава 3 степени, золотым оружием. На оригинальной марке представлены образы воинов России разных эпох; на основном изображении — портрет Г.И. Бутакова и пароходофрегат «Владимир». Grigory Ivanovich Butakov (1820–1882) - Russian naval leader, naval commander, adjutant general, admiral, founder of the tactics of the steam armored fleet, explorer of the Black Sea. Born in Riga in the family of a 1st rank captain. He studied at the naval cadet corps in St. Petersburg, was released as a warrant officer in 1838 with an appointment to the battleship "Silistria". In the 1838-1850s. sailed in the Aegean, Mediterranean, Black Seas; was engaged in the study of the Russian and Turkish shores of the Black Sea. During the Crimean War in 1853, commanding the steam-frigate "Vladimir", he took the Turkish steamer "Pervaz-Bakhri", and during the siege of Sevastopol carried out the most active service. In 1855, Butakov was appointed chief of staff in Nikolaev, in 1856 - head of the naval unit in Nikolaev and the military governor of Nikolaev and Sevastopol. In 1860 he was transferred to the Baltic Sea as the head of a propeller-driven ship detachment. This gave him the opportunity to continue researching the properties of propeller driven ships and to compose his work "Steamship evolutions". From 1860, almost until the end of his service, G.I. Butakov was in the Baltic Fleet, where he first commanded a squadron of propeller-driven ships, then a squadron of propeller-driven boats and a squadron of armored ships. In 1881, he was appointed chief commander of the St. Petersburg port, and after the abolition of this position, he was a member of the State Council. Butakov napisal ryad statey v «Morskom sbornike», «Svod morskikh voyennykh signalov» i «Knigi evolyutsionnykh signalov». Butakov wrote a number of articles in the Marine Collection, the Code of Naval Military Signals and the Book of Evolutionary Signals. His main work "New Foundations of Steamship Tactics" was awarded the Demidov Prize by the Academy of Sciences. He was awarded the orders of St. Alexander Nevsky, White Eagle, St. Anna 1st degree, St. Vladimir 3rd degree, St. George 4th degree, St. Stanislav 3rd degree, golden weapons.
