The flower buds are sour tasting and are used to brew teas. The leaf, also sour are used in pickling, lentil based curries flavored with spicy, strong flavors in Indian Cuisine. Flowers are used in beverages. syrups, sauces, jellies. preserves and chutneys. Roselle is extremely frost sensitive. Sow seeds late spring/early summer after the last frost in a sunny location. Seeds may also be started indoors. Ideal temperatures for growing Roselle is 75-90 F. Sow seeds 1/2" deep with 4-6" spacing between plants. Keep soil warm and moist. begin harvesting leaves 6 weeks after transplantation when the stem is 18" tall. Cut stem down to harvest leaving the bottom 3-4" of stem in place. Leaves can be regularly harvested in 4 week intervals. Roselle grows quickly and flows in 70-90 days.
