Description: REMINISCENCES OF THE GUILFORD GRAYS Company B, 27th North Carolina Regiment BY JOHN A. SLOAN MINT CONDITION This is a new, unread, pristine-condition book. Clean, Sharp, Solidly-Bound, New Book Memoir of a Captain in Company B Impressed, Gold-Gilded Lettering ORIGINALLY PUBLISHED BY R. O. POLKINORN, PRINTER, WASHINGTON, D.C., IN 1883, THIS IS A HANDSOMELY PUBLISHED 1999 REPRINT BY BROADFOOT PUBLISHERS. One of the few company-grade memoirs of the Civil War, this is a fine account by the Captain and Commander of Company B, in which the narrative describes the fighting the Grays participated in from March 1862 until April 1865, including New Berne, Kinston, Seven Days' Battles, Sharpsburg, Fredericksburg, Mine Run, The Wilderness, Spotsylvania Court House, Cold Harbor, Yellow Tavern, Reams' Station, and locations. The narrative is followed by a roster of the company. The "Guilford Grays" was formally organized as a militia company in Greensboro, Guilford County, North Carolina, on the 15th of March, 1860. It was on this date that the officers received their commissions from North Carolina Governor John W. Ellis. The timing purposely coincided with the anniversary of the Battle of Guilford Courthouse, "an honored day among the people of old Guilford." The company was mustered into Confederate service on June 20, 1861, and was eventually assigned to the 27th North Carolina Regiment and designated as Company B. HIS BOOK IS IN MINT CONDITION The book is new, unread and in pristine condition. It is bound in brown oil cloth with gold-gilded, impressed lettering. It is clean, tightly bound, without a mark. The book contains 143 pages including the company roster and a book index. REMINISCENCES OF THE GUILFORD GRAYS Company B, 27th North Carolina Regiment BY JOHN A.
