For sale: "Rock Study, Pacific Grove, CA" beautiful watercolor by well know early California artist, William Constable Adam. "Professor" Adam painted many scenes along the Central Coast. He especially liked painting Lover's Point scenes from the coastal area of Pacific Grove, CA, where he lived. The watercolor itself, without the frame, measures 13.5 By 18 inches. It is signed on the lower left. Authenticity is guaranteed. Condition is very good. The colors are bright and no visible foxing can be observed. On the reverse are remnants of old paper tape. On the back, there is some toning from the old backing but this does not go through to the front of the work. The present backing is acid free. Artist Biography William ADAM 1846 - 1931 William Constable Adam was born in Tweedmouth, England on August 29, 1846. He studied under Delecluse in Paris, Brydall and Greenlees in Glasgow, and in Buenos Aires before immigrating to Boston in 1893. After moving to California in 1898, he soon settled in Pacific Grove on the Monterey Peninsula. Known as "Professor" Adam, he gave art lessons in his rose-covered cottage at 450 Central Avenue. With a bright and colorful palette of both oil and watercolor, he specialized in views of the Monterey area such as sand dunes, cottage and garden scenes, and the local flora.
