Description: "Shut the Box" is a traditional pub game, although it is an excellent math practice game for young kids. Its origins are probably French, as an article about the “Jeu de Trac”, as it was known in France, was published in October 1893 in the supplement of La Nature journal. "Shut the Box" was traditionally popular among sailors and fishermen and appeared in Britainin the middle of the 19th century. It became then very popular in England. TO PLAY: The game "Shut the Box" consists of a wooden box and two dice. In the wooden box, there are typically 9 tiles (or levers), but on occasion a 12 tiles (or levers) such as this oneis produced. The object of the game is to "close the box" or to lower all the tiles, one roll of the dice at a time, lowering the tilesthat align with the dice thrown. There are NO rips, tears, or stains on the green velvet dice tossing surface. There are NO chips or cracks on the dice, which are in beautiful condition. All levers lift and lower with smooth ease and no catches. Please inspect photos carefully as a few of the numbers show wear. The Box measures approximately 10" x 12.5" x 1 3/8".The Box without the dice weights 1 pound 11 ounces. The dice measure 1" square. Both dice weigh 1.4 ounces. Thank you for your consideration.
