Description: This is an incredible carbon steel katana that was purchased a couple decades ago, smithed by master Japanese swordsmith Yoshindo Yoshihara. For anyone who knows about his swords, they are usually very expensive and I was only able to afford this particular one because this was designed for use, not to look pretty, and was therefore not as expensive as his other swords. (For those asking, there isn’t any kind of signature on the sword that I’m aware of, so I can only attest to having purchased it from their online shop in the early days of online sword sales. I can show no other proof to its authenticity beyond that, so buy only if you’re ok with that.) Purchased at the time for $500 new, this is a steal for anyone who values function over beauty for their blade. The sword had been lost in storage for about a decade so it’s acquired some rust and definitely needs sharpened and some attention with some barkeeper’s friend to remove the rust, but once that work has been put in, you’ll have yourself an incredible piece. The carbon steel means the sword is nigh indestructible—much stronger than most katana blades which are traditionally more prone to break. The carbon steel is difficult to work with for combat-ready blades, so not many katana smiths use it in their blades, but the ones made from it are truly great. I have a family now and really don’t want it anywhere near my toddler so I’m giving it up to someone who will take good care of it and restore it back to its former glory.
