Description: Rare Vintage Gubelin Mid Century Globe World Time Clock. Condition is Used. This is a very rare working vintage Gubelin World Time Globe Desk Clock. Swiss made 8 day movement. The globe is Perspex and it has a gold outline map of the world. Along the equator is a gilt brass axis with the names of 29 world cities. After lining up the city you are nearest with the current time using the blue 24 hour numerals on the Perspex outer ring you can see the current time in all the other cities. The dome base is painted aquamarine with gilt brass stars. Gilt brass baton hands point to roman numerals on a gilt brass annular chapter ring that is mounted within the globe. The movement sits in the base and there is a 50 mm rhodium plated straight-line lever escapement. Monometallic balance, blued steel balance spring and index regulator. According to the 1958 Gubelin catalog this clock retailed for US $680. It runs but may need to be checked by professional. There is some tarnish on the gilt brass, mainly on the back arc that sweeps up and over the globe. The only record I found of one being sold was in 2011 and it sold at auction for 3750 Swiss Francs. You can see this sale at archivedauctions.com. The clock stands 8.5" high and is 5.5"wide (21.5cm x 14 cm).
