Description: Nikon F w/Photomic FTn Finder Forscher Modified for Mirror Up Up for bids is this classic Nikon F camera body with a rare Marty Forscher modification. This mod enables the user to lift the mirror up without losing an exposure in the process. By design, If you traditionally wanted to use the mirror up, you would rotate the mirror up dial, then click the shutter release to lift the mirror. This process meant you'd lose a frame of shooting. Marty's mod fixed that, by allowing the user to push a new 'button' in, which would release the mirro from it's catch, then the user could lift the mirror up and it would stay in place. Thus, bypassing the need for the shutter release to activate it, and saving a frame for shooting. Introduced in 1959, the Nikon F camera introduced the concept of the 35 mm single-lens reflex camera (SLR) system; that is to say, it introduced a lineup of interchangeable parts connected to the camera body, thus revolutionizing photography as we knew it. The Nikon F reigned supreme as the professional system for the next 2 decades and set the standard by which all others would strive to attain. This particular unit up for auction features an advanced FTn finder which had a more accurate light meter than its predecessors..Cosmetics: As you can see from the photos, the camera body is in excellent condition for its age and much better than most. There are a few areas of wear as shown in the photos which capture all sides. Both shutter curtains are light tight. As cosmetic condition is subjective, I have photographed all sides for you to draw your own assessment. A few tiny spots of fungus in the finder off to the edge. The shutter fires at all speeds and sound reasonable. I don't have a shutter tester to determine accuracy of the speeds. Self timer works fine. The meter reacts to light, not sure how accurate it is. The Forscher mod doesn't seem to be working properly. As it is, after every shot, when you wind the film, and press the shutter release, the mirror will lift half way. You manually lift the mirror all the way up, then it will cock the shutter. The camera will then be able to fire the shutter and make the exposure. From what I understand, I think that pressing the Forscher button was to automatically lift and lock the mirror, but I suspect the 'spring' doesnt have the tension to lift the mirror up enough to lock it. Typical to any vintage camera, a CLA (Clean, lube adjustment) and new seals would be recommended if the goal is to put it back into service.
