Description: BREVIARIUM HORARUM (A Breviary of (Devotions of the Hours) Holland, mid-XV century, circa 1450 A.D. Manuscript on vellum, 11 x 15 cm [4 1/2" x 6"]. 30 line Latin text in double columns, Bastarda script in brown ink, with rubrication supplies at the start of sentences, and two line Uncial initial letters supplied in red or blue. The emphasis on the cursive nature of this script suggests that this volume was written strictly for practical use, perhaps for the copyist himself. There are some curious idiosyncrasies of style as the copyist attempted to condense the text as much as possible, to conserve the costly vellum. These measures are countered by an abundance of handsome two line Uncial initial embellishments in color, on the whole creating a pleasing effect. This rare illuminated medieval Breviary Book of Hours Manuscript Vellum Leaf, circa 1450, is a valuable addition to any antique collection. The approximately 575 year old manuscript is written in Latin. It features religious content on the subject of Bibles and its originality is undeniable. This manuscript is made of vellum, a high-quality material that was commonly used for ancient manuscripts. The manuscript itself is an original. This manuscript would make an excellent addition to any collection of antiques or manuscripts.
