Participates in ceremonies in order to maintain traditions, represent the U.S. Army and the Nation. On order provides command and control, and administrative support to 4th Battalion, 3d U.S. Infantry Regiment forces deployed and /or protects federal property in order to support the Agency managing consequences of attacks or disasters within the National Capital Region. It currently has three active battalions, and is readily identified by its nickname, "The Old Guard," as well as "Escort to the President". The regimental motto is Noli Me Tangere (from Latin: – "Touch me Not"). The regiment is a major unit of the Military District of Washington (MDW).The regiment is the oldest active duty regiment in the US Army, having been first organized as the First American Regiment in 1784. I find the natural sun light gives the best contrast for 3d detail and preserves natural epoxy color. The counter to this is it can also cause a glare at the tops of coins with High Gloss coatings.
