Description: THIS IS NOT A PAGE TORN OUT OF A BOOK. It is a stand alone art object.A very large original historic military art print depicting the worst defeat in the Ottoman army's history in Europe by the combined forces of the Hapsburg military machine, ie the Austrians and their allies. This illustrates the Ottoman rout at the river Zenta in the Kingdom of Hungary on September 11, 1697. As a result of the rout the Ottomans lost 25,000 dead and every single artillery piece to the Austrians This ended the power of the Ottoman Empire in Europe. Measuring 15 3/8" x 13 7/8". The reverse is blank. This is not printed on paper made from wood pulp. It is very finely made Laid Paper primarily made from linen cloth turned into pulp and pressed onto a hand screen. The last two photos show the screen lines from the paper molds. This process of handmade "paper" making was largely discontinued in the 18th century. The print is made from 2 sheets measuring 7 7/8" x 13 7/8" glued together in the center. This is the original manufacture of this print and not a repair. Over time the glue turned a slight tannish color. The bottom center has separated by about an inch up from the edge. The print process was made one print at a time by hand via a copper plate engraving. A very rare print. I would be surprised if I ever saw one again albeit even online.
