Description: Rare original cast iron fire mark 1800s, one of the most desirable of all American fire marks. Was purchased in 1934 from a Cincinnati man who had worked for the Liverpool, London, and Globe insurance agency. This gentleman had collected Marks from many early homes in Cincinnati. The buyer was an insurance company owner and early local collector here who dealt with some of the big early names in American Fire Mark collecting in NY, NJ, and PA. He obtained the sellers name through the Cincinnati chamber of commerce. Buyer will receive copies of the interesting correspondence between the two detailing the history and negotiations for 4 Cincinnati fire marks which were very expensive for that time period. Seller states that this mark was taken from a house on McFarland St where supposedly the 1st Mayor of Cincinnati was born. I have not researched this. Beautiful mark with rare provenance.
