Description: This was a purchase at an upscale auction and is from the estate of a fellow who had a great collection of unique, one of a kind ethnographic tribal items, and this one certainly is fascinating. It is a great example of an old folding pustaha (book) of divination, rituals, and medical potions. The calander would have been made and used by the Shaman to guide the tribe on things such as planting and harvesting. The calendars 12 columns represent the months and the 30 rows the days. It is made with carved bovine front and back covers. The front cover is topped with a carved reptile figure. The pages inside are made from softened bark. There is a wonderful illustration of a coiled snake. The pages are intact and in very good condition. In the photos, you will notice that the covers are detached from the bark pages. Please see all photos to judge condition for yourself and ask if you have any questions or need additional pictures. I am always happy to combine ship if you purchase more than one of my items. A unique example of an antique Indonesian manuscript. Length 4.5", width 3.75" Weight 7 ounces.
