Description: Rare Antique Wooden Great Western R.R. (GWRR) Train Set with Steam Locomotive, 2 cars, 2 tracks and Depot/Platform.Based on the type of construction, materials used, stencil patterns, and patina on wood, I would estimate that this toy train set dates from the late 19th Century to the very early 20th Century. It appears to have been commercially made, not a homemade toy. There are no makers marks or country of origin marks. I have not been able to find another example of this train set. It appears similar to toys made by Morton E. Converse & Company. The freight depot and rail cars are identified as GWRR 245.There are six pieces total, as followings:Freight Depot/Platform - about 9" wide by 7" deep by 4" tallSteam Locomotive - 7 3/4" long, 2 1/2" wide and 3 1/2" tallTwo (2) flat rail cars - each are 6" long, 2 11/16" wide and 1 11/16" tallTwo (2) rail sections - each are 12" long and 3 1/2" wide. All these pieces are in excellent condition with great looking patina. All of the pieces, except the two rail sections, have black stenciled paint decoration. One back wheel on the locomotive has some deterioration (not sure what caused this, possible insect damage or water damage, see photos). These made a great display piece.
