Rare Antique PH Leonard Vienna, Austria "The Munich" Pink & Green Floral China

Description: Antique PH Leonard Vienna, Austria "The Munich" Pink & Green Floral Porcelain Dinnerware. The items in this listing are being sold by the piece, not as a set. Note that in some of the photos it shows these "The Munich" pattern pieces along with others which are from PH Leonard Vienna, Austria AUS6/Thuny "Victorian Rose" pattern which I have listed separately. Although the patterns and shapes are similar, The Munich has slightly larger flowers/roses that are pink and green. The other pattern has smaller, denser floral design with pink roses and white five petal flowers. The Munich Pattern Description: Pink & Green Floral, Scalloped, Embossed Ribs on rim, Gold Trim. Made in Bohemia, Austria. This pattern is discontinued. Maker's Marks: First, the pieces in this listing have the printed green imported mark of 'Crown-VIENNA-AUSTRIA'. Although Replacements, Ltd. attributes this china pattern, among others, to a generic manufacturer of "Austria", it would seem that this is more likely related to the U.S. (New York) importers of PH Leonard (ca. 1885 until 1898), or Bawo & Dotter (ca. 1898 to 19??), or Charles L. Dwenger (ca. 19?? until 1915), or Paul A. Straub & Company, Inc. (1915 until 1970). They all used this same printed green imported mark of 'Crown-VIENNA-AUSTRIA' as shown on this set of china, with no exact known dates of use. All of these items were from one large item family supposed to be like the porcelain originally produced at the former Royal Porcelain Factory in Vienna and the mark used on these items was actually a dedicated export mark owned by the Gräflich Thun'sche Porzellanfabrik Klösterle and had previously been used on items handled by three New York importers: PH Leonard had been the first until his bankruptcy in 1898. He was succeeded by Bawo & Dotter who took his place for a short time before being replaced by Charles L. Dwenger, followed by Straub around 1915. Logically nobody can nowadays say who actually imported specific items based on the mark alone. A number of impressed marks exists on this fine china as well; most of these are Thuny's 'TK' initials. Secondly, The pattern name, "The Munich" is printed on most of these pieces. See photos. Condition: Very good antique condition with signs of light use and well cared for. There are no chips, cracks, crazing or repairs. Light utensil scratches and light shelf wear may be present. See photos. Lid is 10" in Length x 7-3/8" Width. There is a 1/4" x 1/8" chip on rim of lid. Moderate wear to gold trim.
