RARE 1949 War era DIRECT airmail from Jordan to Israel + ARRIVAL backstamp

Description: RARE - 1949 wartime mail to Israel directly from an Arab country: 17 (Jan-Feb) 1949 postmarked commercial cover sent from AMMAN Jordan to the Shell Oil Company in HAIFA "Palestine", likely franked for air mail service though at least one stamp is missing, the remainder totalling 40 mils & tied by 2 weak strikes of the local postmark - part of the date is visible. At this time Transjordan was in a state of war with Israel and thereafter (until 1994) a party to the Arab League postal boycott of Israel: the cover should have been refused service on the spot but the address locale as "Palestine" likely confused the postal clerk who accepted the letter for processing - and the cover was subsequently backstamped 14 March 1949 HAIFA-11 arrival. As there are no further Jordanian postal markings on the cover such as a refusal of service or indications to send the cover back to the sender, the cover was mailed directly to Israel, likely by an air carrier which landed at Haifa airport. Remarkable no less is that the Israeli post office did not refuse to accept the cover on the grounds that it originated from an enemy country - the armistice between the 2 countries was signed on 3 April 1949. Also of note - the cover was not censored neither in Jordan nor in Israel. Slit open at top.
