Description: I purchased a medal display case at an estate sale in the Dallas, Texas area and all of the athletic awards date from around 1930. The man whom they belonged to was a gifted 440 yard runner as well as the mile. Along with his athletic awards he had several military and C.M.T.C. medals and ribbons which indicate that he was quite proficient with weapons (Several awards for Sharpshooter, Marksman), and while in the military he was an island hopping marine fighting the Japanese. One medal has Pilcher scratched into the back but I cannot find any information on that name. Nevertheless, he was one of the greatest generation. If you love our nation's great military history search my store for "medal" or "Dieges & Clust" and you will find maybe 20, depending on how long it takes to list them and how quickly they sell. This item for sale here came from that collection. This particular medal is in exceptional shape for its 90 years of age. It was created by Dieges & Clust, a couple of jewelers in New York who made numerous sports, trophies, medals, rings, pins, etc., as awards for sporting events, etc. They are very collectible. Finally, Dieges & Clust are a very reputable company that dates from 1898 to the 1930's and are very collectible having made everything from athletic trophies, medals, pins, rings, etc. (one ring sold for $95,000.00 at auction), and that will also solidify value. Here is a link for information on their company. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dieges_%26_Clust Rare 1930 Metropolitan Association AAU Bronx County 440 Yds. 1st Place. Shipped with USPS First Class.
