Description: Rare Early Antique FIRST EDITION Book, "NORWOOD: Life in a New England Village" by HENRY WARD BEECHER, ORIGINAL 1868 PUBLICATION DESCRIPTION: Scarce first edition book, Norwood: or Life in a New England Village is a well known 1868 work by the renowned abolitionist HENRY WARD BEECHER. One of his sisters was HARRIET BEECHER STOWE, the famous abolitionist author who rose to fame in 1851 with the publication of her best-selling book, UNCLE TOM'S CABIN, highlighting the evils of slavery. This is a 1st Edition copy, It was published by Charles Scribner in New York City. It is in fair condition, but still a decent copy. This book has 549 pages. Has the original brown cover I have tried to show the condition flaws in the pictures, rather than showing the typical parts and the nicer condition aspects, so that you will see all the details. The original cover is worn and the binding is loose. A couple of the first few pages are torn or missing, including the title page. It has advertisement pages at the end, and the last one of those is missing. Partial staining on some of the pages, but not bad compared to many copies I have seen. There is old pencil writing and a drawing on the inside of both front and back covers. It appears that this copy may have been used in a library or as a school book. Pages are tight in the text. Probably would be a good candidate for re-binding if desired. Book measures 5 1/2 "x 7 3/4". This iconic first edition will make a great addition to your collection or a very thoughtful starter gift for someone interested in this period, this subject, or this author and his early anti-slavery leanings, or first edition books in general. This is a very economical copy for the scarce title. This is a very unusual, VERY EARLY book on a fascinating subject, and it is loaded with a great deal of fascinating early information IT WOULD MAKE A GREAT REFERENCE BOOK OR JUST GREAT READING. Lots of details in a variety of areas. A reasonable price, and not bad for its age. A good basic copy of this desirible, famous first edition. SHIPPING TERMS: Buyer pays $7.00 shipping costs.
