Description: Acts of the General Assembly of the State of Virginia passed in 1861 in the Eighty-Fifth Year of the Commonwealth with the Appendix: Ordinances adopted by the Convention of Virginia in Secret Session in April and May 1861 Published: Wheeling: Daily Press Book and Job Office, 1862. 379 pp. + 73 pp. appendix. Hardcover in marbled paper boards and leather spine. Text block good and tight. Pages slightly toned from age, but overall very good. The Appendix of the Secret Session is where the state states "[the people of Virginia] do further declare that said constitution of the United States of America is no longer binding on any of the citizens of this state." It goes on to establish a Virginia Army and Navy and outline the laws of the state government. By April of 1861, the 7 southernmost states had already seceded from the Union. It was not until Fort Sumpter in April that Virginia officially seceded -- this publication is the official enactment and publication of that secession, printed that same year. I've done my best to describe the book, but if you have additional questions, please don't hesitate to send me an e-mail.
