Description: Rare NEW HAVEN CLOCK CO. 8-Day San Martin Mantle Shelf Oak Mission Gong Clock with Key. This clock has been in my family for many long years. I grew up hearing the somehow reassuring tick-tock and gong go off on the hour, for as many gongs as the hour number, and it also gave a gong at the half hour. It is ticking as I write this but I am really not sure how accurate it is. At some point, my folks stopped winding it up. However, the hands are moving and it just emitted the familiar single gong as the big hand lined up with the 6, at 7:30, and then 8 gongs at 8:00. It is is a nice piece in the original dark oak Flemish finish with the New Haven Clock Co. label on the back, the original pendulum and original glass in the door. The numerals are all brass as are the hands and dented gong (see photos). It measures 20-1/2" tall, 12" wide (at the tallest & widest points) and 4" deep. It seems to be missing some of its original pieces of wood on the outer lower door, as I have noticed that in other pictures on the web, as well as noticing the lighter areas where those pieces may have been attached to the wood.
