Description: An ORIGINAL music industry collectible offered from InTimeWithMusicApproximate Age: [120 YEARS Victorian c1900]Qualit'e Excelsior Metronome Selon Maelzel Mahogany Bell French Antique c1900 Condition: Qualit'e Excelsior Victorian Mahogany Metronome + Bell (The bell is Not working) Measures: [9" High 4 3/4" square at base.] Weight: [ 500 Grams] Probably Victorian and dating to around the turn of the Century c1900, this metronome was manufactured by Qualit'e Excelsior in France. the serial number is 209361 It appears to be Mahogany. There are several dings and light scratches to the wood, commensurate with age but nothing that majorly detracts and it actually display's itself very well with a nice Golden antiqued exterior appearance. It needs a heavy clean and service to the mechanism. The pendulum is working as you can see and hear which is a sign of a good mainspring, It can still generate power regardless of all the dust, debris and 120 years of accumulation in it's clockworks. It runs steady for approximately 18 minutes at 87 beats per minute on a 75% wound spring. See video. The time signature bell is not functioning. The parts appear to be intact but dirty. As we are not experts we cannot tell what is necessary to activate the bell. The door is in very good condition including the small retaining pin locators along the lower edge. The original card tempo scale is present and marked with the 'Qualite Excelsior' makers mark. It is worn from 120 years of use however most of the time markings are legible. We did not check the accuracy of the time or consistency as this would have to be done by an expert. We did not adjust or clean anything. It isd as it was received. We would the spring about 3/4s of the way and it ran steady at 87 BPM for 18 minutes. The underside has the rear narrow base cover missing that ran along the back with the wooden support. It is fine without it but could easily be replaced. Otherwise the cabinet integrity seems very good. There is a small finishing nail that has been added to the right side lower back corner. See Photo. The large lower door is original. The two button feet on the front appear to be original. One is slightly loose and approximately 3/32" out from it's original position. Although this instrument needs some care and attention we think it is a nice presentable metronome with an appearance that you would expect from an antique of this age.See and hear this item in the video below.
