The shipping cost is based on the level of service (priority, ground, 1st class), the weight and size of the box (if any dimension of the box is greater than 12”, that incurs a premium, and more of a premium if more than one dimension is 12”), and how far it has to travel. If you are on the west coast, that is a LONG way from here, so shipping is going to be expensive. I agree that sometimes that shipping number looks like a lot, but the system auto-calculates it for me, and I have checked prices versus USPS website and they are correct.
