Description: PRESIDENT ROOSEVELT (1944) She was built by Federal Shipbuilding & Drydock Co., Kearny, NJ as a 18,000 GT shipi with dimensions of 573'x75'. Twin-screw, 20 knots, steam turbines, two masts and two funnels. Originally a P2-S2-R2 type American troopship. Converted to passenger ship in 1949. Reverted back to U.S. Government in 1951. Vessel was laid up in 1955 and placed under charter to the newly formed Hawaiian Steamship Co, so as to run in the San Francisco-Honolulu service.
