Description: This ancient bottle comes to us from a small museum collection. The vessel is a traditional ceramic watter bottle from the Caddoan Mississippian culture. Authorities believe that Caddoan culture arose in the lower Red River area in modern day Louisiana and Arkansas. The Caddo are appreciated for their skill at basketmaking and pottery. In the 1700s, Caddo territory was disputed by the colonizing French and Spanish. By the late 1800s, colonial pressure and the influx of settlers prompted the relocation of many Caddo to a reservation in Oklahoma. At this time, the people comprising the Caddo Nation of Oklahoma number over six thousand. We believe the neck was professionally repaired. It stands over 7.5" tall. Please note that we do not import or export ancient items. Additionally, our items typically come from people and businesses that we know and trust. We tend to avoid buying from unknown sources or individuals because we cannot guarantee that they have obtained their inventory through legitimate means. Our listings are researched prior to posting and our descriptions are informed by our own knowledge and experience as well as by the vendors from which we obtain our inventory. Thus, our titles and descriptions are our opinions as to the nature and history of the object for sale. Even so, we welcome discussions and questions PRIOR to purchase.
